The trading firm has recently decided to carry out an upgrade of its distribution centre with the help of BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH in order to improve productivity. For this purpose, BITO retro-fitted static pallet racking levels with carton live storage flow shelves. The self-supporting flow shelves are simply hooked into slots of the upright adapter profiles which allow this system to be implemented in pallet racking of any manufacturer.
As early as in the 1980s, the product range of the supermarket supplier Tegut Gutberlet Stiftung & Co. in Fulda, Germany, was enlarged by organically produced fruit and vegetables. The organic segment with more than 2.500 products comes in part from company owned subsidiaries and the bakery shop which both closely cooperate with farmers of the Eastern Hesse region. According to their turnover frequency, the organic products are supplied in static pallet racking levels. In order to increase picking performance of their operators while maintaining the FIFO principle during in- and outfeeding, Tegut decided to upgrade its existing pallet racking from BITO and other manufacturers. Static pallet racking levels were to be retro-fitted with carton live storage flow levels.
The automotive supplier Optimal KG headquartered at Langenbach, Germany, has implemented a standardised bin and container system to allow integrated automation of their material flow. Offering many possibilities for subdivision, bins and containers from BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH have considerably improved handling in warehousing, interim storage, in-house transport and order picking in view of space requirement and process reliability.
Optimal KG provides spare parts for axles, brakes, steering and motors as well as other products for motor vehicles. The supplier provides parts and components to the unaffiliated spare parts market from which production partners around the world, original equipment manufacturers and quality suppliers replenish their stocks. Optimal was originally organised as a classic packaging and distribution business, but as their product range continued to grow, the company established several warehouse locations. In 2004, Optimal got into the spare parts business and enlarged their range to suit more than 1.200 different motor vehicle types. After some years, all storage and logistic ressources had been exhausted. Last but not least, the difficulty was that the available 12.000 products are made of 18.000 different parts. For this reason, the company decided to build a new warehouse and distribution centre and to incorporate a packaging service.
Meisenheim/Stuttgart, December 2, 2009 – The value chain is based on the critical factors time (access, processing, idle times, times for rework, storage and transport) and material (availability, rejections, losses). The LogiMAT 2010 which will be held from 2 – 4 March 2010 in Stuttgart, is a good opportunity for BITO to present solutions which will sustainably enhance in-house material flow. In hall 1, stand 401, visitors can view BITO Adapta-Flow modules which allow rapid reconfiguration of your static pallet racking into live storage racking. Moreover, BITO will present their large volume plastic containers which help to improve efficiency, overview and quality in production and assembly.
Celebrating 50 successful years in the storage and handling industry, the Meisenheim-based storage specialist BITO-Lagertechnik provides a comprehensive manual on storage and order picking systems with their latest catalogue “PROJECT GUIDE.” This well structured book invites readers to take a deeper look into the world of storage technology by explaining in detail the various storage systems, their features and advantages. No matter in which industry the reader is at home – this anniversary issue provides the matching solution for the application in question. This makes the manual a valuable planning aid for your projects.
Whether the reader favours shelving or pallet racking, a multi-tier installation or a mezzanine platform, cantilever racking or even an automated storage installation – each storage system comes with plenty of illustrations and easy-to-understand descriptions. An introduction informs on the suitability for a certain type of use, such as for a supply, order picking or as buffer store, on service options as well as on the space utilisation ratio of each system. The reader will also be given information on the most frequent areas or industries of application and on the type of goods which would typically be stored in the various systems.
Broad range of products and services provide for stability
Bito-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH with their headquarters in Meisenheim (Germany), looks ahead with optimism despite the currently difficult economic environment. “At present, we have to deal with a 20% drop in incoming orders,“ says BITO’s managing director Detlef Ganz on the occasion of a press event celebrating their 50 anniversary as provider of storage and handling products. According to his assessment, this drop is due to the fact that at present there are only few bigger projects on offer on the market. However, compared to the cutback rates of other companies, BITO registers a moderate decrease only which, according to Ganz, can be attributed to the broad range of products and services. „Our broad range suits customers from very diverse industries with very different requirements.” Moreover, BITO has expanded the distribution network to cover the whole of Europe. “Thanks to this strategy, BITO still receives enough orders to achieve a satisfactory to high capacity utilisation ratio of our plants in Meisenheim and in Lauterecken“, continues Ganz. “We therefore do not have a reason to be pessimistic. We know from talks with our customers that most investments have only been postponed. We assume that many of these projects will be realised in 2010.” Last year, we achieved a turnover of 150 million EUR with some 740 employees. This is a plus in turnover of 20% compared to 2007 and a 5% increase in the number of employees. Already in 2007, the company grew by 25% as compared to the previous year and was able to provide 60 new jobs.
The storage and order picking specialist BITO, headquartered at Meisenheim, Germany, has introduced the e-proCAT software which enables the company to generate electronic catalogues on a XML basis (BME Cat). This means that the customer can now retrieve product information without having to handle paper – a solution which saves time and money for purchasers. More than 5000 references from the printed version of the PRODUCT CATALOGUE have been electronically recorded. This solution is particularly interesting for those companies which have geared their purchasing process towards e-procurement. Electronic catalogues can be provided with customer specific prices and specifications within no time. This allows customers and dealers to view all product data, eCl@ss classifications, photos and further information whenever required. If necessary, all data can be easily exchanged.
The topic stirs great interest: together with their professor Hans-Joachim Fuchs, 27 geography students of the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität at Mainz went on an eleven-day expedition to the Swiss canton Wallis. With the help of a method developed at Mainz University, they intend to slow down the dramatic deglaciation of more than 10 cm a day of the Rhône glacier. BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH, headquartered at Meisenheim/Germany supported this enterprise by donating several plastic containers with hinged lid which were required to safely transport expensive measuring equipment and materials to an altitude of 2.300 metres.
